When the active ingredients are removed from the whole herb through the use of a liquid solvent as grain alcohol or glycerin, a liquid extract is created. A tincture is a particular kind of liquid extract that uses a combination of grain alcohol (ethyl alcohol) and sometimes water as the solvent.

Liquid extracts have several advantages:
- They are potent so only a small quantity is required.
- They are easy to swallow. Mix with your favorite juice or tea.
- They are easily absorbed stimulating the nervous, hormonal and digestive systems.
- They have a good shelf life. Up to three years if you keep them out of direct sunlight and in a cool place.
We make elderberry syrup by using fresh elderberries, distilled water and honey. We use this elderberry syrup as the base to our throat care products and add to it our concentrated tinctures and vitamin C.
